Poolside Partners with CoreWeave
On OCtober 15th, POOLSIDE & COREWEAVE ANNOUNCed A PARTNERSHIP FOR A DATA CENTER BUILT ON A SPRAWLING RANCH IN WEST TEXAS. WSJ COVERED THE STORY.
CoreWeave and Poolside are collaborating on a large-scale AI infrastructure project named “Project Horizon” located in West Texas.
The facility will be built on roughly 500–600 acres of land in the Permian Basin region, leveraging proximity to natural-gas resources and existing energy infrastructure.
The planned capacity is about 2 gigawatts of computing power, often likened to the generation capacity of the Hoover Dam, making it one of the largest of its kind in the U.S.
CoreWeave will serve as the anchor tenant and operational partner, providing a cluster of over 40,000 NVIDIA GPUs beginning December 2025.
Poolside emphasises this campus gives it control not only over compute but power and scale, addressing bottlenecks in the industry around site build-out, energy and latency.
Why it matters:
It signals a shift in how frontier AI infrastructure is being built, from leasing existing data-centres to purpose-built campuses with integrated power, compute and connectivity.
The choice of West Texas (the Permian Basin) leverages low-cost power, abundant land and nearby energy infrastructure — a competitive advantage.
For investors and stakeholders in AI, this underscores how physical infrastructure is becoming a strategic factor at the frontier of compute-intensive AI development.
